Zone 1
0 - 5ft around the structure
This is the most critical area to keep fire-safe. The goal is to prevent flames or embers from igniting anything directly next to the structure.
Remove all combustible materials (wood piles, mulch, debris).
Keep vegetation extremely low, green, and sparse.
Use non-combustible materials like gravel or rock.
Ensure gutters, roofs, and decks are free of pine needles and leaves.
Zone 2
5ft - 30ft around the structure
This zone focuses on slowing fire down and reducing its intensity if it approaches the home.
Remove ladder fuels and thin brush.
Space trees and shrubs so fire can’t easily climb or spread.
Keep grass trimmed short.
Prune tree branches up at least 6–10 feet from the ground.
Create breaks with lawns, pathways, gravel, or driveways.
Zone 3
30ft - 100ft around the structure
The purpose here is to reduce the fire’s ability to build heat and move toward the home.
Thin dense vegetation and remove dead or downed branches.
Reduce fuel loads by spacing trees and clearing flammable debris.
Maintain natural vegetation but break up large fuel pockets.
Whichever zone you choose for us to reduce these fuels in, we will do our best to maintain proper landscaping but also remove fuels down to nothing but dirt so there are no ignitable materials in the proper zone.
